Consider Carefully. What do you need to accomplish? Do you need a way to access the backyard from an elevated patio door? Do you need a good place to keep your grill? Or space for outdoor summer dining, relaxing, and entertaining?
Recognizing and negotiating your needs and wants will be a critical component in expressing your design intentions.
When choosing a deck you should look at designs that meet your needs and explore some different ideas on how to make it your own. A new deck is usually a place for entertaining and at the same time a place to relax or try out that there Bar-B-Que. Don’t be afraid to think big and bold, this approach will typically lead to better results than deciding on a replica of your neighbor’s deck.
You probably won’t be able to fully realize all of your ideas, but in the end it will be worth it if you can blend a few suggestions into the final design.
Maintenance is also a critical decision in choosing your deck materials. With a traditional wood deck you can have more deck for your money, but then come years of seasonal maintenance. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, seeing how it’s only once a year and there are companies that will do the maintenance at a minimal fee.
With a new composite deck material your deck will only fade a little and will never warp, crack or split. And at the start of the season just spray it down with suggested cleaner and it’s ready to enjoy again.
